Deborah Richardson: artist, oil painting, surrealism

I feel any object contains multiple associations that are woven throughout our psyche - allegories that speak to us on many levels - emotional, intellectual, or directly to the soul. These object associations create a subliminal and complex, yet eloquent, language for visual expression. An intentional surrealism. ;-)

Most of my subject matter deals with spiritual, scientific, and metaphysical topics — understandings gained through perpetual curiosity about the nature of our existence. Just as dreams can be intensely candid and surreal, so are my paintings: from nightmares born of fears to the bliss of 'just being'. Dualities contrast between the surreal and realistic rendering, drawing dreamlike imagery closer to our every-day world.
